We have an opportunity for a part-time carer to join our team working one night shift per week, 10.30 pm – 7 am. 

We also have an opportunity for bank night shifts.  

To participate as part of the Community Complex Care Team in providing care to both chronically ill and acutely ill patients and those requiring a rehabilitative programme.  The post holder will be part of a team providing care, in shift patterns, to an individual client in his/her own home and may also be assigned to any other client scheme that may occur within the Complex Needs department. 

Main Duties

  • Ensure that the highest possible standard of care is maintained within a safe environment using person-centred practice.
  • Provide safe and effective care including all aspects of personal and specialist care such as, PEG management and suctioning.
  • Provide all aspects of care according to the client care plan.
  • Liaise with client, families, care management and other Trust representatives as required.
  • Ensure proper use, care and maintenance of nursing aids and equipment including those for moving and handling purposes.
  • Obtain client consent for all procedures.
  • Implement agreed systems to ensure adherence to guidelines and Optimum Care’s Policy for the safe handling, administration, storage, and custody of medicinal products.
  • Practice in a way that acknowledges the dignity, cultures, values, beliefs, and rights of the client.
  • Adhere to all NISSC Codes, Standards, and Guidelines and maintain up-to-date NISCC registration.
  • Participate in the implementation of record keeping in accordance with guidelines and adhere to Optimum Care policy on records management.
  • Attend mandatory training and the necessary training arranged by Optimum Care to enable competent provision of all aspects of clinical care according to the client care plan.
  • Adhere to Optimum Care Policies, Procedures and Guidelines.
  • Flexible approach to working hours to ensure smooth and continual running of Complex Needs Services.
  • Participation in rotational on-call service as required.

Essential

  • Minimum of 1 years’ experience providing care to vulnerable person(s) in hospital, nursing home, community, or home setting
  • Full driving licence and access to a car
  • Flexibility towards hours of work
  • QCF (NVQ) Level 3 or above in Health & Social Care or willing to work towards same.
  • Effective communicator with proven interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team

Desirable

  • Experience or knowledge of care for Tracheostomy / ventilation /PEG /suctioning /nebuliser or diabetes
